The Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce Hosts a Business Roundtable with Governor Charlie Crist
Last evening the Clearwater Regional Chamber of Commerce was proud to host Governor Charlie Crist and eleven local business leaders in a roundtable discussion. Issues surrounding education, tourism, renewable energy, tax burdens, workers compensation insurance and property insurance were discussed. Chamber members participating in the discussions include: Carol Hague of Johnson, Pope, Bokor, Ruppel & Burns, Lisa Marie Chandler of Pier 60 Concessions, Susan Decker Ross of Decker Ross Interiors, Robert Roperti of Jiffy Reprographics, Donald Cambridge of D-MAR General Contracting and Development Inc, Andrew Winkler of Merrill Lynch, Martin Smith of the Belleview Biltmore Resort, Susan Rolston of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Lourdes Mayorga of Florida Bank, Joy Gendusa of PostcardMania and Frank Chivas of Island Way Grill. We applaud our participating business leaders. They did an outstanding job representing the concerns of the Clearwater business community.
Bob Clifford, President/CEO expressed our support for the several issues within the Governor's agenda including support for the tuition differential issue and the burden of proof legislation related to property tax challenges. We believe these will result in a stronger workforce for businesses within our community as well as even the playing field for the property owners.
Mr. Clifford also requested the Governor support and sign into law House Bill 903 related to worker's compensation insurance. We should not support a worker's compensation system that allows for the attorney collect more in fees than the injured worker can collect. He also requested his signature on the property insurance package that begins to gradually bring Citizens Insurance closer to actuarially sound rates, which protects Citizens Insurance solvency.
D-Mar General Contracting & Development is now a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and we are currently working towards becoming Leed Certified. We are paving the way to becoming environmentally friendly in any way possible.
